Art Center
Mrs. Donka Angelova is the founder of the art centre ALTERA and she has established it in 2005.
The activities of the art centre are focused on popularizing the contemporary Bulgarian arts and culture, introducing to the public the works of leading Bulgarian authors including those who are abroad, and also development of the Bulgarian cultural tradition and keeping it alive.
Introducing the public to the work of leading Bulgarian artists, including such working abroad, is also another commitment of the art center.
Up until now at the gallery there have been presented such names like Asadur Makarov, Bujan Filchev, Galina Usheva, Gancho Karabadjakov, Georgi Yordanov, Ivailo Mirchev, Konstantin Valchev, Krasimir Zinin, Mark Krauze, Marusia Kalimerova, Milko Bozhkov, Hristo Yotov, Hristo Haralampiev and many others.
ALTERA in cooperation with the Union of Bulgarian Artists is a host of the Small Graphic Biennale – 2005 and 2007 as well as of the traditional spring exhibition of the artists of IZGREV region (2005, 2006, and 2007).
In August, 2005, in Nessebar, the art centre laid the foundation of the annual International Festival of Christian Art and Culture.
The travelling exhibition Icons that was shown in London (December 2007) and in Denderleeuw, Belgium, was highly estimated by the British and Belgian public.
The gallery organizes and conducts a plein air in Velingrad. The Different Plein Air – art of painting (2005), Tracks – paper work (2006) and Aquarell-ic (2008). The art works created at the plein air are introduced in a separate exhibition with its own catalogue.
Debuts + project has started in 2007 and its main purpose is to stimulate the development of the Bulgarian artists of juvenile and youth age.
Since 2007 the small saloon of the gallery has developed as a territory for presentations of non commercial projects in the area of the visual-plastic arts and artistic photography.
The art centre has been a host of the national holidays of the Kingdom of Morocco (2005, 2006), there have been organized and hosted official dinners, gatherings and exhibitions of the Indian culture (2005, 2006) and Days of the Syrian culture (2006).
ALTERA has organized charity campaigns on the occasion of the International Day of People with Disabilities (2nd of December): Dances on Wheels (2005) and Textile Exhibition after the project of the Community Centre ISKRA, Sofia for the social integration of people with disabilities (2006).
Besides being a gallery, the space of the art center also functions as a salon space – a forum where arts talk to each other.
In the series of events Troubadour Duels organized by White Glove Club, author and moderator Peter Chuhov, the art center presents renowned Bulgarian poets including Kristin Dimitrova, Krasimira Zafirova, Plamen Doinov, Plamen Kirov, Boiko Lambovski, Edvin Sugarev, etc.
The Salon about Music and Reflections, held by Nikolay Kolev and Iliya Gramatikoff, is at the beginning of its forth season by now.
Iliya Gramatikoff also started a project of his own named Alter Music or the Classical Music between Understanding and Happening.
Some of our future projects are courses for amateurs in textile art and dancing. By developing them Art Center Altera shall consolidate its position of cultural space that provides opportunities for promotion and for communication between professionals, connoisseurs and fans in the field of art.
